South African Airways & SunExpress To Expand Boeing 737 Deal

South African Airways (SAA) and SunExpress will expand their current partnership, which
will see the Antalya-based airline provide more aircraft to South Africa’s national carrier in
the 2024/25 financial year. Additionally, the two companies will continue to explore other
opportunities to strengthen their relationship.

To finalize the deal, South African Airways CEO, Professor John Lamola, signed a
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with his SunExpress counterpart Max Kownatzki in
Johannesburg. This is in addition to the current six-month damp lease agreement signed in
October 2023 for the provision of two Boeing 737 aircraft, maintenance, and cockpit crew.

Under the new agreement, SunExpress will double the number of aircraft leased to SAA,
providing two more single-aisle jets for the 2024/25 European winter season. With plans to
have a fleet of about 150 aircraft in the next ten years, partnerships like the one with SAA
allow the Turkish-German company to utilize its fleet efficiently and offer an ideal solution
to mitigating the impact of its seasonality.
